Cersei Lannister
Ships: Cersei x Jaime
Headcanon: none
Thoughts: I don’t know if I’m the only one, but I hated book!Cersei. I was so excited for her to finally be removed from any kind of power. But then show!Cersei happened, and I saw a whole other side to her. When I’m reading, I cannot help but have my own bias for the characters colour my reading. I saw Cersei as a Lannister, a part of the family that turned on the Targaryens. I saw her as enabling Joffrey. I saw her as a megalomaniac, borderline psychotic burning down my beloved Targaryen built buildings.
But with Lena? I saw a vulnerable woman, a woman who just wants to be safe for once in her life. A woman who loves her children so much, she cannot stand the idea of turning against them no matter what anyone says. A woman who is betrayed by those who should have protected her. A woman who is so desperate to hold on to the crown, not necessarily because she wants to be on top of everyone else, but because she fears being powerless.
In the books, FOR ME, Cersei went along with Joffrey’s insane plans. She loved him and coddled him and I hated her for it. I only really felt anything for her when Jaime was treating her poorly, tbh. I was so mad when he refused to come for her.
So no, I was not a Cersei fan while I was reading. But, on tumblr people kept attacking her so I felt the need to defend her. I kept saying, ” I’m not a fan but…”, and before I knew it I was kind of a fan of hers. Not quite sure when that happened.
I still don’t want her on the throne. But I understand her more, I think. And I appreciate what an absolutely marvellous, brilliant character she is. Such beauty and strength to go along with the absolute paranoia of a woman whose whole life is crumbling around her. So while I will never stan her, I’ll leave that to better folks than I, I can enjoy her so much more now that the show has really gotten rid of some of my bias against her. Lena really does an incredible job, imo. Once again, these are just my thoughts on the character and by no means am I the person to be analysing Cersei.
Sidenote, if Jaime doesn’t wake the fuck up and start being on Team Cersei again I am going to slap him so hard. Just sayin’

Stannis requested by onionjulius

King Stannis Baratheon
Ships: none
Headcanon: none
Thoughts: To be honest, I never cared for Stannis in the books until the more recent ones. I’m not a huge fan of him being at the Targaryen seat of power, Dragonstone, and I don’t want him on the Iron Throne. This isn’t because I don’t like him, or because I don’t think he would be a good King. I think from what we’ve seen and read, he is by far the best King up for the job. But I’m pretty certain that all of Mel’s visions are actually about Dany. I mean, come on? The sword of fire? That is Blackfyre, and I’m just waiting for a Targaryen to wield it again.
Show!Stannis really warmed me to the character, and I find myself caring more about his fate. Much like Khal Drogo, on paper I found it hard to find emotions within the character that I could connect to or emphasize with. Yet, on screen there is fresh life to the character and I find myself caught in his story much more than before. I do love that he has some Targaryen blood, that’s for sure. In the books I chose to believe that Stannis wasn’t actually sleeping with Mel. Because with books, if you skim and delude yourself you can kind of choose how you are going to interpret the text. Obviously, on screen you can’t do that. I wish he wasn’t having sex with her, because I’ve always felt really bad for his wife and daughter. I can’t wait to see Shireen, tbh. I do think they are doing a good job of translating his storyline to television, although I don’t follow too many Stannis stans so I’d love to get better opinions on this.
I think my favourite scenes with him, are definitely the later ones and I can’t wait for that interaction.
I mostly wish Renly hadn’t betrayed Stannis and declared himself king, because they would have made a great team.
They shouldn’t call this season Clash of Kings, they should call it “How many times can we fuck up Dany’s storyline”

The comet means one thing, boy. Dragons. Blood and fire, boy, and nothing sweet.
